Elise Putnam
(b. 1986, Chicago)
Elise Putnam is an interdisciplinary artist working in drawing, sculpture and performance. Her work challenges presumptions of neutrality of a white body. Putnam grew up in a suburb of Chicago, received her BA from the University of California, Berkeley, pursued an MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, then served as a US Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa. She returned to California where she taught at the University of California, Berkeley. She then attended the University of Chicago where she received her MFA in visual art. Putnam is a fall 2018 artist in residence at Ox-Bow, she currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
